More Evidence that Mobile Advertising is Hot! Samsung Joins the Race against Apple and Google

While the numbers have predicted that mobile advertising is in the process of exploding for years now, the amount of companies that have recently thrown their hat into the ring proves once again that mobile advertising is a smoking hot space right now.
Just taking a look at the ad network space, you will see that in addition to traditional ad networks like Millenial Media, there are many companies who generally operate in a completely different space and are now opening their own ad network. This inclues Google (Admob), Apple (iAd), and the latest player, Samsung.
Samsung confirmed that it is teaming up with OpenX Technologies to create a mobile ad platform called Samsung AdHub Market, which will enable brands to serve ads on Samsung phones and tablets. The service is expected to launch in the second half of the year. Advertisers will be able to purchase inventory for ads from both Samsung and the developer of the app itself.
Samsung has not yet disclosed any of the pricing structures, but something tells me the company is paying close attention to Apple's mobile advertising disaster.
“This is the first time any device manufacturer has entered the ad tech space in this way,” said OpenX Chief Executive Tim Cadogan. “It is becoming very clear to the principals in the mobile space that advertising is going to be a very important part of the revenue mix.”
